Infosys has partnered with India Post
to develop and manage a Service Delivery Platform (SDP) that will allow
more than 130,000 rural post offices to offer online services.
While the financial details of the partnership were not disclosed,
the company said that this platform will also manage more than 130,000
handheld devices used by rural post office employees to
distribute social benefits under the National Rural Employment Guarantee
Act and process Electronic Money Orders. Additionally, Infosys will
also help India Post in its Rural Systems Integration (RSI) program.
The company said that this platform will be developed by using its in-house solutions like mConnect, TruSync and Finacle Inclusion.
mConnect is an enterprise solution which enables mobile services for
websites and eCommerce platforms, while TruSync is a data
synchronization solution, which syncs data from different database
systems present in mobile devices, desktops, and Web services and
Finacle Inclusion solution enables banks to offer various
banking products and services like Mobile banking, e-banking and direct
banking among others to the underbanked and unbanked population.
Financial Services: Prior to this tie-up, Infosys had partnered with
India Post in August 2012, to develop financial services operations and
end-user experience for more than 200 million banking customers across
urban and rural India, which included a large base of insurance
customers.

entire project was expected to cost around Rs 700 crore and was divided
into 8 contracts out of which Infosys had won one of the contract worth Rs 100 Crore.
For the same, the company had claimed that it would be installing
1,000 ATMs for India Post and implementing an Electronic Content
Management system to manage documents generated as part of India Post’s
financial operations. It’s not clear as to what is the status of this
project.
Other developments
In July 2012, the Department of Post had partnered with the state-run
BSNL to launch the pilot run of the mobile money transfer service
in Punjab, Bihar, Delhi and Kerala Circles. In November 2012, the
service was launched in all regions where pilots were going on.
Reliance Communications, the Reliance ADAG owned telecommunications service provider, had announced that
it has signed a contract with the Department of Post, to host their
servers over a 3000 sq.ft space at Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City in
Navi Mumbai.
