Post Master General, Punjab Region was the Guest of Honour of the day. Making
now a very needful addition of a POST- OFFICE to benefit more than 50,000
persons at the campus; there had already been available remarkable banking
services to the students and the employees from many nationalized Banks like
State Bank of Patiala, Punjab National Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, at the
University Campus. There are also twelve ATMs of SBI, PNB, OBC, SBOP, Bank of
India, and of other reputed banks at the University.
Speaking for this new installment, Chancellor, Mr Ashok Mittal said: "We are
very happy to receive another very valuable service from Government of India at
our door-steps in the form of this Post-Office, which is soon going to
facilitate elaborated postal services to more than 50000 persons within the
campus premises. It is going to serve as a fully functional branch catering to
all the relevant needs like Mail, Parcel, Speed-post, Money Transfer, Banking,
Insurance, Retail and allied services. Apart from regular services to the
students & employees, hailing from 28 states of India and 26 foreign lands,
it will also save valuable time of daily service providers, vendors and
contractors at the University by having this easily accessible much-needed
facility near to their working or study quarters."
Post Master General Ms Prasad assured: "On an approach, we strongly felt that
for such a large population there was certainly a requirement of full-fledged
Post Office at the Campus." She also informed: "Sustaining the position as a
part of the largest postal network in the world, this post office will, too,
provide services to all its customers with speed and reliability. For providing
efficient postal services, the whole country has been divided into 22 Postal
Circles. Each Circle normally corresponds to a State & Punjab Circle is one
of these. Today, it figures among the top five circles having generated large
revenue in business post services."
