Successful Postal Life Insurance Mela held at Pratap Narayan Singhdeo Auditorium, Jeypore on 4th Nov 2012 organised by the SSPOs, Koraput Division

One PLI Mela was held at Pratap Narayan Singhdeo Auditorium, Jeypore on 4th Nov 2012. a good numbee of ASPOs, IPOs, SPMs, PAs, Postmen, GDS and Direct Agents who have been authorised by the Dept. to procure PLI were present during the PLI Mela. Despite of heavy rain officials participated from every corner of the Division from Malkangiri to Nabarangpur and from Koraput to Gunupur. More than 2 Crores of sum assured were procured on the very day.

Shri Sanatan Modi, SSPOs, Koraput Division conducted the PLI Mela successfully.

Now, apply for passports at speed post centres

BHUBANESWAR: Passport seekers can now file their application at speed post centres in the city and 53 other locations in Odisha. The receipt of applications at speed post centres was stalled after introduction of certain changes in the registration of online passport applications by the ministry of external affairs in June.

"We have again given official codes to speed post centres by which they can accept applications. Applications for fresh passport will only be entertained at these centres," regional passport officer Padma Mahanti said.

Recently, the Regional Passport Office (RPO) organized an orientation programme for postal officials in Bhubaneswar to acquaint them with the updated version of receiving online applications.

Unlike Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) in Bhubaneswar, the speed post centres will not capture the biometric fingerprints of applicants. "Fingerprint collection is not mandatory at the speed post centres. Applicants need to furnish matriculation certificate, birth certificate and address proof only," Mahanti said.

Post offices to see gold rush on Pushyanakshatra day

Ahmedabad: Post offices in the state are expecting a massive rush for gold coins on auspicious Pushyanakshatra day (Tuesday) because of the 7% discount announced by the postal department. India Post expects almost 100% growth in gold coin sales this festive season, not only in Ahmedabad but in other districts of Gujarat as well.

Post offices are offering a flat 7% discount on gold prices as compared to prevailing prices in the retail market. Currently, the discount amount comes to around Rs100 to Rs125 on 0.5 gram coins and Rs200 to Rs250 on 1 gram coins.

Banks usually do not sell gold coins or bars in the 0.5 gram and 1 gram denomination. The demand for these coins and bars are the highest in post offices in Gujarat.
