Dear Comrades,
Postal dept will reimburse the cost of the lost articles in 15 days: Official
The business meet organised by the Indian Post
turned out to be a grievances meet, with many complaining about
deficiency in services, on Thursday.
RTI activist Prakash Bhat pointed out that many a times the contents of the letter are written on acknowledgments and envelopes.
"This may look silly but is a big problem when one seeks information under the RTI Act. As we sign the acknowledgment, we can not question if the information mentioned on the acknowledgment is not present inside," he said.

"This may look silly but is a big problem when one seeks information under the RTI Act. As we sign the acknowledgment, we can not question if the information mentioned on the acknowledgment is not present inside," he said.
The Postal Department does not have sufficient postal orders. Postal orders of denominations of Rs 10 and Rs 20 are in short of supply as many people seek them to apply under the RTI Act. The Postal Department should take steps to ensure that there are no shortage of them, he said.
Bhat pointed out that there is a delay in delivery of speed post, especially to the government offices. Most of the times when a person approaches a post office with speed post then the acknowledgment proof slip does not furnish proper details of the sender, he said.
A person is made to wait for long hours in the queue as many visit the post office with bulk mail. The queue moves at a snail's pace. There is a need to make separate counters for bill payments and speed and registered post. The pincode book is not yet supplied, he said.
Another person said that his consignment worth Rs 1.5 lakh has been misplaced and when he approached the post office, he was asked if he has an insurance for the parcel.
However, when he asked details on how the insurance is done, the officer in the post office was himself not sure of the procedure, he said.
Addressing the grievances, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices Dr K Chandrashekar said that the government has asked all security instruments such as postal orders, National Saving Certificates to be converted into demat format, he said.
"We have one the best delivery and end to end tracking system. We monitor the activities such as booking and delivery. There may be a delay in delivering registered posts as the post man may not get the right person. It is advisable to insure to expensive parcels. We can reimburse the cost of the lost articles in 15 days,” he said.
He informed that the Head quarters, Hampankatta, Balmatta post offices have separate speed post counters.
Chandrashekar promised to look into the grievances and enhance postal service.
A power point presentation on the services available at the Indian Post Office was presented. AIR Programme Head Vasanth Kumar Perla opined that the Post office needs to publicise its services with pamphlets.
