Dear Comrades,
In a bid to improve its air links with different parts of the country for better and faster services, India Post has inked a new agreement with national airline Air India.
Ahmedabad is among the 15 cities which will benefit from India Post’s Memorandum of Understanding signed on Tuesday with Air India in New Delhi.
The Logistics Post Air Service to be started from February 1 will help the customers to send their consignments to different parts of the country, especially to the north-eastern region without difficulty.
At present, India Post has a fleet of only three of its own exclusive aircraft to carry air consignments with Nagpur as its hub.
Chief Postmaster General of Gujarat circle Humera Ahmed said that the new service would help meet the “huge demand” for easier transit of items to different parts of India.
Initially, the service will begin in Ahmedabad, Agartala, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune and Trivandrum and will be extended to other cities in a phased manner.
While the booking, handling, packing and delivery will be done by India Post, the consignment will be transported by Air India.
