Slovenian Post to help Kosovo Post develop its postal services

Dear Comrades,

Slovenian Post has signed an agreement to help Kosovo Post modernise its postal services.

The national postal operator in Slovenia said its experience could be useful in assisting Kosovo Post to upgrade its mail sorting and postal counter technologies, as well as in the development of digital services.

The agreement between the two Posts, signed last week in Kosovo’s capital Pristina, followed a visit by Kosovo Post representatives back in February.

Kosovo Post was formed by the Kosovo government in August 2012, with Kosovo’s postal services transferring over from the Kosovo Post and Telecommunications company along with 926 staff.

Slovenian Post said it could help Kosovo Post to meet the standards of the Universal Postal Union and the those of the European Union.

The company said it could help in the training and education of Kosovo Post staff on the postal services and laws of the European Union, which Kosovo is hoping eventually to join, although it is hindered by five EU Member States being unwilling to recognise its sovereignty after breaking away from Serbia in 2008.

Experience

The company’s knowledge of domestic and international delivery logistics and transportation, along with hybrid mail technology, means a good amount of knowledge and experience to impart to Kosovo Post.Slovenian Post said it operates one of the largest information systems in Slovenia, connecting 10 branches, two logistics centres and 556 post offices, as its work force of 6,280 employees delivers 1.8m items a day.

Slovenien Post said it wants to contribute to the development of postal operators in the Balkans region.
Slovenian Post director general Boris Novak, who signed the agreement last week along with Kosovo Post CEO Sejdi Hoxha, said that his company was confident it was gaining a trusted and reliable business partner in Kosovo Post, with whom the company could achieve long-term synergy benefits.
“Kosovo Post is seen as a stable company that wants to provide efficient, high-quality services for its customers,” said Novak.
“We are pleased it is not shying away from progress, but accepts and faces the challenge, paving the way for its own development.”
