DELHI: The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) on Tuesday
celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Bureau of Civil Aviation
Security’s inception, by ear-marking a stamp in agreement with the
Department of Posts.
On the occasion, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh also reviewed the Aviation Security systems in the country.According
to BCAS Commissioner Gurjot Singh Malhi, the Bureau had strived to
equip stakeholders responsible for the aviation security in the country
with cutting-edge technology, skill enhancement of security personnel,
training in the use of advanced technology and acquisition of security
equipment to ensure the challenges arising out of the exponential growth
of civil aviation industry. Malhi mentioned that the Bureau had
identified challenges like identification of dangerous objects,
difficulties in differentiating between harmful and harmless organic
objects and detection of liquid aerosol gel to address them in right
earnest. It also endeavoured to make available the latest technology in
the world to ensure civil aviation security.Malhi said that the
BCAS had drawn a lesson from incidents in India and abroad like the 1985
Kanishka tragedy, the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines IC-814 flight
to Kandahar and the 2011 suicide strike on the Moscow airport. And the
experience arising out of these would be used for creating a robust
security system in the country.Nasim Zaidi, Secretary, MoCA, CISF chief Rajiv and V P Agarwal, Chairman, Airports Authority of India AAI were also present.
