300 artists to take part in postal cultural meet

NAGPUR: The 27th all-India postal cultural meet will be held at Nagpur between February 11 and 15 at Dr VasantraoDeshpande Hall, Civil Lines. Nagpur will be hosting the programme after more than a decade on behalf of the Maharashtra circle.

About 300 artists from 19 postal circles will participate in this meet. The inaugural function will begin at 9.50am on February 11. Ujjwal Choudhary, director general (training), National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT), will be the chief guest.

The cultural meet will have a number of programmes showcasing talents of postal employees, their spouses and children. There would be two groups in which the participants will be competing - junior (below 15) and senior (above 15).
 
The fields of competition will include flute, drama, tabla, violin, Carnatic vocal music, Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam, Veena and mono acting. "Last year Nagpur region employees bagged seven of the 15 gold medals which Maharashtra circle won," said M E Haq, postmaster general, Nagpur region.

Speaking on the developmental plans. Haq said Nagpur GPO had applied for Sevottam quality standard certification of the Bureau of Indian Standards. "Other plans like core banking solutions and ATMs are in the pipeline and may be implemented in the next financial year," he said.
