This is regarding clarification on status of Medical Officers for conducting medical examination of PLI/RPLI proponents  as published in the Gazette of India  Notification dated 18.10.2012 , circulated earlier in 01.11.12. As per clause No-10(i) (a) to (C) of said notification, the Medical officers having 05 years, 10 years, 15 years of experience, nearest to the place of duty of the proponent, can conduct medical examination of PLI/RPLI proposals of Sum Assured of upto Rs 5 lakh, of Rs 5 lakhs to Rs 10 Lakh, and Rs 10 Lakhs above. It is practically not feasible to determine while accepting PLI policy whether a doctor has rendered 5 years / 10 years / 15 years of service respectively. Similarly, most of the PLI & RPLI policies are also signed by doctors at outside, the operational area of the insurants.

In view of the above, it is requested to ensure that before forwarding such cases to VO for approval, doctors who have signed the medical form also fulfil the eligibility criteria.
