The implementation of core banking solution (CBS) at post offices in
Nagpur has been further delayed. Now, it is expected to be rolled out in
the next two months. "We haven't got the exact date for starting the
implementation of CBS in Nagpur post offices but it will be soon," said
Vandita Kaul, post master general (PMG), Nagpur.
CBS is going to be rolled out first in Chennai on December 2, informed a senior official. It is reportedly being implemented first in Greams Road post office, Chennai. After that, it will be implemented in select post offices of other regions covered in the pilot phase. Six post offices of Nagpur are among them.
Earlier CBS was expected to be launched in city by June but was postponed. Kaul further said city post offices were ready to implement CBS as soon as orders came. "We are just waiting for the go ahead," she said adding that the data centre in Mumbai that had earlier not been ready was now all set.
Kaul said extra precaution for rolling out a perfect system could be the probable reason for delay. "Once the system is rolled, its implementation in other regions will be faster. Now, in the first rollout, it is being done steadily. It is better to be perfect if slow than doing something hastily and then correcting mistakes," she added.
The eight postal circles selected for the pilot phase are Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. The six offices from Nagpur Region are Nagpur City head office (HO), Nagpur GPO; Gondia HO, Khamgaon HO, Wardha HO and Yavatmal HO. Offices coming under these HOs will be also covered.
The Nagpur General Post Office (GPO) and Head Post Office at Itwari will open automated teller machines (ATMs) on their premises along with implementation of CBS. After its implementation, customers who have their savings account with post office will be able to access their account from any post office covered under CBS.
