Postal Staff Stages Protest in Karwar

Dear Comrades,

Members of the Karwar division of the All India Postal Extra Departmental Employees' Union (AIPEDEU) staged a demonstration and went on a fast at Karwar on Thursday in support of their demands.

In a memorandum to the Karwar Superintendent of Post Offices, the member alleged that tightening of norms for cash handling and sale of stamps, revised point system, and not allotting time factor for Recurring Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) and MNREGA schemes had affected the branch post master service (BPMS) and Grameen Dak Sevaks (GDS). They sought corrective steps to protect the interests of sevaks.

The members demanded that the services of sevaks be regularised and they be given benefits enjoyed by other government staff provide. They also demanded that the Supreme Court judgment on death cum-retirement gratuity (DCRG) be implemented.

The union's other demands included house rent allowance, hill allowance and Uttarakhand allowance, children's education allowance, and medical facility for sevaks.

The members said that they would intensify their agitation if their demands were not fulfilled.
