The Department of Scheduled Caste Development, Kerala Government has launched e-Housing, an online system of granting financial aid for house construction to the Schedule Castes. The e-Housing website was launched by the Minister for Public Works, Shri M Vijayakumar on February 27, 2011.
After the successful implementation of e-Grants, this is another step forward in e-governance for the Kerala Scheduled Caste Development Department. e-Housing will make the whole process of sanctioning and distribution of monetary assistance under the Bhavana Nirmana Dhanasahayam Scheme time-bound, efficient, transparent and easy as 90% of the work will be done online by the software.
The system will eliminate corruption and middlemen as the Department has tied up India Post for directly sending the funds to the beneficiaries. Every benefactor has to start an account at the nearest post office. After completion of every stage of the house, they have to submit an online application for the instalments. Within one week, money will be transferred online to the benefactors account after inspection.
e-Housing is modelled on the national award winning scheme of the department, e-Grants for educational benefits. The officials expect this scheme to be beneficial for a large number of the scheduled caste people. The Department is also planning to start e-Med in the same model to distribute medicines to patients of the communities at their doorsteps.
The e-housing website (www.e-housing.kerala.gov.in) has been designed and developed by C-DIT.
