Dak Sevak staff strike affects postal services in rural parts

Dear Comrades,

With Gram Dak Sevak (GDS) employees striking work indefinitely, following a call given by the All India Postal Extra Departmental Employees Union (AIPEDEU) opposing the “anti-labour policies” of the Union government, postal customer services were affected in rural parts of the State.

Services including delivery of mails, payments of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) rural postal insurance, savings bank deposits have been affected to a greater extent, as over 16,000 Dak Sevak employees have struck work, according to leaders of AIPEDEU.

Speaking to The Hindu, S.S. Mahadevaiah, national general secretary, AIPEDEU, said that the employees were forced to strike work, as talks with the Union government had failed.
