KANPUR: A senior official of the postal department was reportedly caught taking bribe by CBI sleuths here on Wednesday evening.
The anti-corruption wing of the CBI laid a trap at the General Post Office near Bada Chauraha area and caught CB Singh, who had recently joined as a superintendent at a post office in Kanpur Dehat district, red-handed while taking bribe.
He was reportedly accepting bribe from one Rajesh Rohela. The postal official had promised Rajesh that he would appoint his son on the post of a branch post-master in lieu of a Rs 1 lakh bribe.
Rajesh had lodged a complaint with the CBI in Lucknow recently stating that Singh was demanding a bribe for his son's appointment.
The CBI sleuths on Wednesday laid a trap and caught Singh accepting Rs 10,000 as token money from Rajesh. The CBI team later also raided his Bagahi Babupurwa residence and recovered cash worth Rs 84,000 and seized several documents.
The accused was later taken into custody by the CBI officials. "He will be booked under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. We will produce him in court in Lucknow on Thursday," informed CBI officer PK Srivastava.
