Dear Comrades,
BANGALORE: The High Court on Wednesday
directed the Union Ministry of Communication (Posts) to provide some
suggestions to open a post office in Vasanthanagar. The court gave this
direction while hearing a PIL filed arguing that the closure of the post
office in the area has caused a lot of inconvenience to the public.
The
petitioner and party in person Satinderpal Chopra stated the post
office has remained closed for over two years. The office was on a
private property and after the department closed the post office, the
residents and the senior citizens are facing a lot of problems. He
further stated that nothing was done even after repeated requests to
the Post Master General.
Hearing the
petition, a division bench headed by Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen
directed to file a report on the available place for the post office.
However, the postal officials stated that they did not find any place to
reopen the post office in Millers Road and Vasanthanagar area.
Hearing
their submission, the bench suggested to provide a place for the post
office in the same building and further observed that an area of 48,000
sq ft is being used for parking vehicles.
“Why
these activities have to be carried on in the middle of the city by
ignoring the inconvenience caused to the citizens. This is something
which we cannot accept,” the bench said and adjourned the matter to June
6 for further hearing on the case.
