Inaugurating the building for the Thirukkalachery post office in the district, he said postal department was now joining hands with electricity board, insurance companies and Union and State Public Service Commissions to offer various services to the people. It was now engaged in the process of enrolling people for the Unique Identification Number (UID) given by the Unique Identification Authority of India. In the first phase, the enrollment will be done in urban areas starting from August. Rural areas will be covered during the later phases, he said and added that the unique identification number will provide citizens the simplest and easiest means to clearly establish their identity to any public or private agency. Noting that the post office building at Thirukkalachery had been constructed at a cost of Rs six lakh by the village Muslim Jamath, Dash appreciated them for their gesture.
