Mangalore, Jul 6: ‘Aadhar’ a unique identity number registration campaign was launched at the head post office in Pandeshwar here, on Wednesday July 6.
Citizens can now get a biometric identity card under the union government's unique identity number project. The card, named ‘Aadhar’, made by the Unique Identity Development Authority of India (UIDAI), can be received from Pandeshwar post office after submitting the relevant documents.
This scheme was launched by additional DC Prabhakar Sharma symbolically. Speaking on the occasion, he said that obstacles found during the distribution of voter id should be overcome this time while availing the national identity card. He requested citizens to obtain UIDAI cards and make the project a success.
The UIDAI biometric card, which carries a unique 12 digit number, will be issued free of charge. It will be useful for opening a bank account, to obtain new mobile connections, withdraw NREGS money, to obtain insurance policies, to obtain ration cards and for use in other procedures where producing identity and address proof is mandatory.
J K Rao, Lions district governor, and postal department senior officer T G Nayak were also present.
