Dear Comrades,
Ending a decade-long trial, a special CBI court on Wednesday
convicted six persons, including two postal employees, in a case of
forgery that caused a loss of over Rs 1.4 crore to the exchequer.
In 1997, over 380 Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) bonds were stolen
during transit from a railway yard in Patna. Manoj Kumar and Sunil Kumar
got hold them and used fake identification slips to encash the bonds in
connivance with postal staff.
They were helped by Sanjeev Kumar and H N Pal to forge the seals and stamps, which made the stolen KVPs look like these were issued from Panipat and Dadri. They have also been found guilty of forging identity slips issued to persons who have purchased legitimate KVPs.
Mahender Singh Verma, a postmaster in Nirankari Colony, and Sohan Pal, another postal employee, were convicted for allowing encashment of the stolen KVP bonds at several post offices in Northwest Delhi.
The six men were convicted under various sections of the IPC, including forgery.
