Dear Comrades,
VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday registered a case against a postal assistant at Tekkali head post office in Srikakulam district for allegedly committing financial irregularities in 11 savings bank accounts to a tune of Rs 25.54 lakh.
The accused K Pandu Ranga Rao, who was working as a postal assistant at the Tekkali head post office between June 12, 2009, and October 19, 2011, used to allegedly delete the original savings account withdrawal entries from the 'Sanchay Post Module' data saved in the computers and increase the balance of the accounts of the depositors.
After this, he used to fraudulently withdraw these increased amounts from the respective accounts by forging the depositors' signatures on the withdrawal vouchers, allegedly causing a wrongful loss of Rs 25.54 lakh to the department by tampering with data pertaining to 11 SB accounts and abusing his position. Rao has now been suspended and investigations are on.
