GPO, Head Post Office to get ATMs

Dear Comrades,

NAGPUR: In a welcome move, the Nagpur General Post Office (GPO) and Head Post Office at Itwari will open automated teller machines (ATMs) on their premises by September end. The work has already started and spots for the ATMs have been identified, said Vandita Kaul, post master general (PMG). "It would have been completed by mid September had it not been for the heavy rainfall," she added.

Along with the ATMs, core banking solution (CBS) software is also being introduced at select post offices under the pilot phase for upgrading postal banking.
Originally, the pilot phase was scheduled to be implemented by June, but it got delayed as the central processing centre in Mumbai, which will store the data, has not yet become operational.
Six post offices in Nagpur region feature among the 124 nationwide selected for the pilot project. "In Nagpur region, the Khamgaon head office (HO) will be the first to migrate its data to the new CBS software. Once it is implemented there, the conversion of other post offices will be rapid," Kaul informed TOI.
She also said that all the post offices selected for CBS in the region including the Nagpur GPO and city HO, Gondia HO, Yavatmal HO, Khamgaon HO and Wardha HO were ready to implement the software. "We can do it anytime," she said.
However, it will take more time for the customers to reap the benefits of the scheme. "Our employees will feel the difference first as they are the ones who work at the back office. After that, our customers will also feel the change," Kaul said.
After its implementation, customers who have their savings account with the post office will be able to access their account from any post office covered under the CBS.
