Dear Comrades,
GUWAHATI, Sept 18 – When we think of postage stamps, images of Gandhiji, Nehruji, some exotic animals or plants and other things come to our mind. Now you can have your pictures or faces implanted on stamps and use them for sending letters or couriers.
India Post’s ‘My Stamp’ scheme has been operationalised in the Assam Circle and customers can now approach the Philately Bureau of Guwahati GPO for printing ‘My Stamp’ with their own photo using a stamp template.
“It costs just Rs 300 for a My Stamp sheet of 12 stamps which can be used to cherish unforgettable moments and also for sending letters to loved ones,” Chief Postmaster General, Assam Circle, T Murthy said.
The personalization is achieved by printing a thumbnail photograph of the customer’s image, logo, etc. To avail the facility, a customer has to fill up a form and deposit Rs 300 with a photo. The photo can also be clicked by the Philately Bureau staff.
The customers in Guwahati Circle can opt to have their images featured in four samples of stamps. There will be a fixed template on one side of the stamp while the customer’s photo will be on the other side.
Initially, the scheme will be available at the GPO in Guwahati or during philately exhibitions. Customers from outside can also apply by sending the form and their photo.
The My Stamp scheme is among numerous experiments taken up by the Postal Department in recent years to come up with innovative schemes at a time when traditional letter writing is fast disappearing. “We hope this will encourage more youngsters and kids to take up philately,” Murthy said.
Speaking on the occasion, Riju Ganguly, Director, Postal Services (Assam Circle), said that in recent years revenue from customer-to-customer (C2C) services has come down substantially and business-to-business (B2B) segment has also “fractured”. “We are surviving on business-to-customer (B2C) services and so we are diversifying into new innovations,” Ganguly said.
