Rs. 150 coin issued in memory of Vivekananda

Indore: The Union Government has issued two new coins of Rs 150 and Rs 5 denomination on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The Indian Post & Telegraph Department has also issued a set of 4 postal stamps to offer tribute to the Swamiji.


A coin collector, Suresh Shukla, gave full details about the new coins. He informed that the Rs 150 coin is the 4th coin in this value series. Earlier 3 coins were issued in memory of Ravindranath Tagore, Income Tax Department and Pt Madanmohan Malviya. He also informed that this coin is round shaped and weighing 35 grams with a diameter of 44 mm. It is consisting of 50% silver, 40% copper and 5% each of nickel and zinc. The Rs 5 coin is also round shaped, weighing 6 grams and with a diameter of 23 mm. It is consisting of 75% copper, 20% zinc and 5% nickel. Both these coins are cast in Kolkata. Regarding the new stamps, he informed that one stamp is of the value of Rs 20 and other 3 are of Rs 5 each.
