Tie-up with DoP for delivering Driving License in Navi Mumbai

Dear Comrades,

Mumbai: Police officials have long been complaining of fake addresses being furnished on driving licences, causing a major hindrance in investigating terror attacks.

Now, in an attempt to curb this practice, authorities from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Vashi have decided to deliver licences to seekers at their homes, with the objective that the service will act as a verification process.

Confirming the plan, Sandesh Chavan, assistant regional transport officer, said, "We are thinking of a plan wherein licences will be delivered to the address that is submitted in the documents by the licence seeker.

This way, we can confirm the address being furnished." The home delivery service is already being provided by Mumbai and Thane offices and it has been successful in those areas."

At present, the RTO in Vashi, issues driving licences to licence seekers at their office.

Home delivery of licences will help the RTO office in verifying the addresses of the licence holder, since in many cases, they are found to be living at a different address than the one they provide on documents.

Chavan added that the Indian Postal Service has been assigned to deliver the licences in the satellite city.

"The Indian Postal Department is the most credible agency for the task. Talks are on with them, and a plan will be chalked out in the next two weeks. Once the deal is finalised with them, the home delivery service for licences will commence immediately."

However, the service will not be free of cost, and all those seeking licences will have to shell out an additional Rs. 50, which will bring the total cost of a licence to Rs. 400.
