Srinagar, Oct 11 (PTI) The Department of Posts will provide savings and
postal life insurance facilities to every household in Ladakh region within
three months. "Every house in Ladakh would be given Post Office Savings Bank
facility and Postal Life Insurance facility. Such a step will develop the region
in a big way," Chief Postmaster General J&K Circle John Samuel said at the
inaugural function of Postal Week celebrations here yesterday. Samuel said the
department will very soon open six new post offices in all the three regions of
Jammu and Kashmir. A new post office would be inaugurated at Sher-e-Kashmir
University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology in Jammu on October 13 while
three new post offices would be opened soon and including one at Lal Bazar, he
said. Samuel said as a part of developing the Ladakh region, two new post
offices would be opened in remote areas. He said recently post office had
launched special covers at various tourist destinations in the state including
Khardungh La and Chang La passes and Siachen Glacier. The department also
started a Postal Apple scheme which was launched by Minister for Tourism and
Culture Nawang Rigzin Jora. The new service of the J&K Postal Circle will
market the Kashmir apples through mail order business. A-Grade Kashmir apples
of export quality would be delivered through postal network as a gift product.
The service would initially be available in General Post Office Srinagar and
Head Post Office Jammu, Samuel said. As a part of motivating the staff, Chief
Postmaster Generals Awards were given to the postmen. Samuel also announced
Dak Seva awards for 20 postal officials which would be given during the next
month. As a part of the Postal Week celebrations, India Post gold coins were
launched at Srinagar GPO.
