New Delhi, Dec 3 (IANS) The Department of Posts (DoP) has sought the finance ministry's view on a proposal to set up a post bank and has also decided to install 1,000 ATMs (automated teller machines) in major post offices across the country.
'DoP has got a study conducted from Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad, which came to the conclusion that there is a scope for setting up a post bank. The department has sought views from the Ministry of Finance on the proposal,' Minister of State for Communications and IT, Sachin Pilot said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha earlier this week.
'The department has decided to install 1,000 ATMs in all major post offices across the country. These ATMs will allow facility of 24x7 withdrawal for the customers,' he added.
Pilot also said that the Planning Commission has sanctioned Rs.5 crore for conducting a study on setting up of a post bank during the 11th Plan.
