Get your photo ‘stamped’ by India Post

Dear Comrades,

VISAKHAPATNAM: Next time you send a letter or a greeting card to friends or relatives through post, you can opt for a personalised stamp with a photo of your own or that of a family member imposed on a Rs 5 stamp, under the 'My Stamp' programme launched by India Post in the city on Saturday.

The move is aimed at offering individuals and corporates a personalised feel of stamps.

"Anybody can approach the post office for a personalised stamp," said post master general Sharda Sampath. All you need to do is either take a hard copy or soft copy of your photograph or get yourself clicked at the Vizag Head Post Office at One Town Area and pay Rs 300 to get a sheet of 12 stamps with your own photo superimposed on the personalised stamps. Corporates too can get their company logos printed on the stamps, but will have to place a minimum order for 500 sheets.

Just like other stamps, these personalised stamps can be used on envelopes and greeting cards for postal transmission.

The personalised stamps will prove to be a boon for city philatelists, said Sampath. "Philately is a popular hobby and when people are getting a chance to use their photos or favourite themes on the stamp, it will certainly prompt more people to come forward for getting their own stamps," she said.

These will include the 2,552 philately deposit account holders with the postal department, the post master general said. "This is a golden opportunity for them to collect stamps of their choice," she said.

"It's not only meant for individuals. You can even give stamps as a gift. The trend is quite popular abroad and we are sure it will catch up here," she said.

The 'My Stamp' concept was introduced during the World Philatelic Exhibition at Delhi in February 2011, but was officially launched by Union minister of state for communications and IT, Killi Kruparani, at Muvvalanaipalem sub post office on Saturday.
The thumbnail on the stamps can be used to highlight artwork, heritage buildings, logos of institutions, tourist places, wildlife, animals and birds, according to the postal department.                                                         Times of India
