Country's third AMPC to come up in Hyderabad

Dear Comrades,

Hyderabad: An Automated Mail Processing Centre (AMPC) is being established near Shamsabad on the city outskirts by India Post for speedy sorting and delivery of mail, a senior official said Friday.

The proposed centre - the third to be set up in the country after Delhi and Kolkata - at an estimated cost of Rs 80 crore, will be ready in the next one to one-and-half-year, Chief Postmaster General (Andhra Pradesh Circle) B V Sudhakar told reporters.

"Land has already been procured for the centre. The proposal has already been forwarded to the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) and once it gets clearance for funding, the AMPC will be commissioned in the next one to one-and-half -year," he said.

Since the AMPC is installed, there will be no documentation required with respect to sorting, despatching and delivering of mails.

AP Circle has 16,142 post offices and the total number of accounts operated in the state till today is 3.5 crore, with the deposits against these accounts at Rs 28,475 crore, he said.

India Post has tied up with AP government to extend 'Mee Seva' citizen service initiative through 2,437 computerised post offices and the trial run began last week, Sudhakar said adding payment of benefits under Bangaru Thalli -- girl child protection scheme -- and Abhaya Hastham scheme for the self-help group women, will be implemented shortly.
