competition held over the last two months to promote story writing.
On Tuesday, India Post, and NGOs that promote story writing, Katha Kosa
and Settle Stories UK, announced the winners. The exhibition of the
stories, which began on Wednesday, will continue till October 15 at the
General Post Office in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus area.
The youngest participant is a Junior KG student and the oldest an 86-year-old Kharghar resident.
The creative writers let their imagination flow and produced their work
not just in a story format but also through poems and drawings.
The authorities were in for a pleasant surprise after getting entries
in several languages — Sanskrit, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil,
Urdu and, obviously, Marathi, English and Hindi.
Chief postmaster general Col. KC Mishra said, “Our first edition of the
competition has been a runaway success. We have also received blue
postcards that India Post has discontinued issuing.” Now, only yellow
postcards are available at all post offices.
Katha Kosa’s Dhara Kothari said, “We were not expecting these many
entries. We had thought that there would be around 1,000 stories. We
will now make an e-book of the stories received. As there are so many of
them, it should be ready only by December.”
Later this month, the winning stories will also be displayed as part of the storytelling festival in the UK.
